Robofest - Seminar on Robotics and Embedded Systems

A new academic year had begun. The then FE’s were now the SE’s and as per the VESIT tradition this was, indeed, the time to welcome them to the rich society culture.

So soon after all the topsy-turvy Dom of getting the new council formed IEEE-VESIT decided to welcome its new members in a rather grand style. The year kick started with a seminar followed by a workshop on Robotics by Harsh Mehta the final year students at the college and quite literally the masters of the game of robotics.

This seminar began with the showcasing of an amazing video compilation illustrating the unusual kinds of robots designed over the years in the world, and their unique applications. This was just an appetizer to actually get the students into the right mood to savor what was coming next. The duo presented its robots and explained the process of robo-making in detail, about the various components required & the various processes involved.

The seminar was then followed by a 2-day workshop taken by Vivek Jha, the Technical Advisory Board member, from the council. The workshop encouraged the members to form groups and each group had to prepare its own robots, keeping in mind the upcoming inter collegiate technical festivals. Each group was provided with a complete ‘robo-kit’ consisting all the required components for making a robot. An experienced TE was assigned as a ‘mentor’ to each group. The assistance of the mentors was indeed helpful, especially for those members who were entering such a contest for the first time.

Both-the seminar and the workshop proved to be a very good learning experience for the members, who dealt with loads of team-work, improvement in technical skills and most importantly -a FUN event. This being the first event of IEEE this year, is indeed a memorable one.
